Béranger Sauniere

François, Bérenger Saunière, often simply named under the name of the abbot Saunière in many historical and fictional works or in press reports, is a French Catholic priest, born April 11, 1852 in Montazels, a village located in the department of Aude, and died January 22, 1917 in Rennes-le-Château
This man of church is mainly known for having spent large sums of money during his ministry in Rennes-le-Château, but the exact amount, nature and origin remain unknown. This personal enrichment remains closely associated, in the collective imagination, with the discovery of a hypothetical treasure by this man on the site of the village.
