  • The castle of Aguilar

    The castle Aguilar (Aguilar in Occitan) is a Cathar castle located east of Tuchan, in the department of Aude. It is a castle dating perhaps from the twelfth century whose construction continues during the XIII and XIV century. Feudal castle in the hands of the family of Termes it becomes in the XIIIe century a royal fortress.

  • The castle of Arques

    The castle (twelfth and fourteenth centuries) is composed of an enclosure that surrounds a central square dungeon 11m side, with turrets at each of its angles. In 1231, the family of Termes was dispossessed of this castle for the benefit of a former lieutenant of Simon de Montfort, Pierre de Voisins. At the end of the 13th century, his son Gilles de Voisins, rebuilt the village in the form of a country house and began the construction of the current castle.

  • The Castle of Peyrepertuse

    In 1240, when the country fell into the hands of Simon de Monfort assisted by the king of Aragon, Guilhem de Peyrepertuse abandoned his castle without a fight. The scale of its remains and the quality of its constructions make this castle the most important ensemble and the most remarkable example of military architecture in the Middle Ages of Languedoc. The existence of a primitive dungeon is attested by acts dating from the beginning of the eleventh century.


  • The castle of Puilaurens

    The castle of Puilaurens (Castèl de Puèglhaurenç in Occitan) is a Cathar castle located in the municipality of Lapradelle-Puilaurens. This fortress is perched on a rocky spur overlooking the Boulzane valley at 697 meters above sea level. He locked the doors of the Fenouillèdes and was one of the five sons of the City of Carcassonne.
